聖心ダイアリーでもお伝えしていますように、１１月７日に聖心会総長　Sr. Barbara Dawson　が訪問され、全校朝礼で歓迎しました。生徒代表の挨拶に応え、以下のように話をしてくださいました。

Sr. Barbara Dawson's Speech

Good morning, everybody. I want to thank you very, very much for welcoming me to your school. This is the best part of my job, is coming to meet students all over the world and to meet you here, all of you and your teachers, it's a great gift to me.

So, this year is a very special year in the Sacred Heart family. Do you know why it's special? It's because of St. Philippine Duchesne. This is the 200th anniversary of St. Philippine Duchesne leaving her country and going all the way across the ocean to a new land. And maybe you've met Philippine Duchesne before. I carry "flat" Philippine Duchesne with me and I have my picture taken with Philippine Duchesne all over the whole world. So when I was thinking about what I wanted to say to you, I thought of two things that are really important for all of us to remember. What Philippine Duchesne taught us; that she was a woman of courage, and she was a woman of generosity. And so when I heard your goals for this year, I thought, I think you have goals that are going to make you women just like Philippine Duchesne, very courageous and very generous.

And today, you just gave me this wonderful donation for Haiti and for Puerto Rico. And I will bring those gifts personally to the people of Haiti and Puerto Rico. In Haiti, this gift, I'm going to give it to a new school, a new Sacred Heart school that's just beginning in Haiti. Haiti is one of the poorest countries in the world. And the children there don't have the things that I had when I was a child or that you have. And so your donation is going to help them have a Sacred Heart school where they have books, and desks, and things to play with in the playground and many things that will help them become full members of the Sacred Heart family and also help them to be able to be generous and courageous, just like you are, when they grow up.

And your other gift to Puerto Rico, maybe many of you know that Puerto Rico had a hurricane. And a hurricane is just like a typhoon, and the whole island of Puerto Rico was almost destroyed. And so, this money will go to help some poor children in Puerto Rico who lost their homes, who can't go to school, who don't have any water, they don't have any electricity. So your generosity is going really to touch the lives and the hearts of children on the other side of the world. And I bring that to them as a part of our big Sacred Heart family.

So, thank you very much, and my prayer and my hope for you is that like Philippine, when Philippine was your age, she learned to be very kind to other people and to be very thoughtful and worry about people who were poor and who did not have what she had. And, so my prayer is that each one of you will be called by God to also be like Philippine. That you'll be concerned about each other, concerned about the people who are most poor, and that you will be women of generosity and courage, now and when you become adults. So, thank you very, very much.

　皆さん、おはようございます。この学校に迎えてくださって、ほんとうにありがとうございます。これは私の仕事の一番よい部分です。世界中の生徒に会いにいくこと、ここで皆さんと、先生方に出会うことは、私への大きな贈り物です。

　さて、今年は聖心の家族にとって特別な年です。なぜ特別だか知っていますか？それは聖フィリピン・デュシェーンのためです。聖フィリピン・デュシェーンが祖国を旅立ち、海を渡って新しい国に向かってから200年の記念となります。きっと皆さんはもうすでにフィリピン・デュシェーンに出会ったことがあるでしょう。私は "フラット" フィリピン・デュシェーンを持ち歩いていて、世界中でフィリピン・デュシェーンと一緒に写真を撮ってもらいます。

　皆さんに何を話そうかと考えていた時、皆さんに覚えておいてほしいフィリピン・デュシェーンが教えてくれたことで、忘れてはならない2つのことを考えました。１つ目は、彼女は勇気ある女性だったこと、そして、２つ目は彼女が惜しみない心（generosity）の女性だったということです。ですから、皆さんの今年の学校目標を教えていただいたときに、「皆さんの目標は、皆さんがフィリピン・デュシェーンのようにとても勇気があり、とても惜しみない心の女性になることができるようにするものだ」と思いました。

　今日皆さんはハイチとプエルトリコに対してすばらしい寄付をしてくださいました。この贈り物を私は自分でハイチとプエルトリコの人々へ持っていきます。ハイチでは、この贈り物を新しい学校、ハイチで始まったばかりの新しい学校に差し上げようと思います。ハイチは世界で最も貧しい国の一つです。子どもたちは、私が子どもの頃に持っていたようなもの、皆さんが持っているものを持っていません。ですから、皆さんの寄付金は現地の聖心の学校を助けていくことになります。本や机、遊び場での遊び道具や、助けとなる色々な物を持てるようにして、子どもたちが聖心の家族のフルメンバーとなっていくのを助けるでしょう。そして、子どもたちが大人になったときに、ちょうど皆さんと同じように、惜しみない心と勇気のある人になれるように助けるでしょう。

　そして、皆さんのもう一つの、プエルトリコへの贈り物です。多くの皆さんはプエルトリコをハリケーンが襲ったことを知っているでしょう。ハリケーンは台風のようなものです。プエルトリコの島全体がほとんど破壊されてしまいました。このお金はプエルトリコの貧しい子どもたちを助けるものとなります。子どもたちは家を失い、学校に行くこともできないし、水もないし、電気もありません。皆さんの惜しみない心は、世界の反対側にいる子どもたちのいのちと心に届くことでしょう。私たちの聖心の大きな家族の一部である彼らのもとへ持っていきます。

　どうもありがとうございます。そして、私の皆さんのための祈りと希望は、フィリピンのように皆さんがなることです。フィリピンは皆さんの年頃で、まわりの人々に対してとても親切になることを学び、貧しかったり、彼女自身が持っているようなものを持っていなかったりする人々に対して、思いやり深く、心を配ることを知っていました。ですから、私の祈りは、皆さん一人ひとりもフィリピンのような女性になれるよう神様に招かれますようにということです。皆さんがお互いに気遣い合い、最も貧しい人々のことを気にかけ、皆さんが今も、大人になった時にも、惜しみない心（generosity）と勇気のある女性になることです。
