English Day is an annual event where junior high school students have an opportunity to display and perform skills and activities they have practiced in class. English Day is divided into two parts. Part one of the program focuses on public speaking competitions. There are two categories for the competition. The first competition is held for returnee students from Year 7 to Year 9. Students must pass an audition and 6 students are selected for the final on English Day. Students are asked to compose and deliver an original speech based on their own experiences. They are judged on their oral skills, content and organisation. The second category is a poetry recitation contest where every student in junior high school has a chance to learn a poem in English. Auditions are held in each homeroom to select a representative. Each representative will recite the poem in the final on English Day. One member from each grade will be chosen as a winner. The second half of the program prioritises a fun, enjoyable atmosphere with an emphasis on students' using English they learned in class. Each grade will make some performance on the stage. Performances include dialogue skits, singing songs, recordings from class activities and original role plays. A key goal is to get as many students as possible involved in both the preparation and the performance.
